About Me

Hello

Thanks for visiting my website. I'm Helena Binns.

I have been extremely fortunate to spend my working life in the hills and mountains. I have taken others into the mountains of England, and Scotland, the Greater Ranges, and into my local hills and mountains, of North Wales.

It has been my lifelong pleasure to spend time walking, climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, horse riding, painting  and even skiing, here at home in North Wales. I am drawn to the mountains in every way!

Throughout my time in the hills I have always been aware of the finer details of the landscape; the play of light  on water,  small bright lichen on a rock, a tiny purple saxifrage in a small rock crack, sheep moving across landscape, grasses moving in the breeze, mist rolling between mountains. Each day brings it's own special moments.

Through my woven textiles I hope to draw on my experiences and weave these experiences  into tactile pieces.  I am  moved by the variety of colours and textures of the land.  I am drawn to the landscape and how it unfolds itself on different days and in the ever changing seasons.

I weave individual one-off pieces on a simple, traditional  loom. I work either to my own designs or in consultation with customers looking for a particular custom piece. I carefully choose natural yarns which are gentle on nature as sustainability is important to me. I choose my yarns for their quality, colour, texture and feel. I weave in wool, linen, cotton and silk .

I am happy to take on  commissions. I often sell on line and I exhibit my work in local galleries

Through my woven textiles I hope to evoke the feeling of hills and mountains, the sea, rivers and lakes. As I weave, I am taken into the landscape in my mind. My feel for the landscape informs my work.

My woven pieces are of the land.
